How to Make A Living from Your Writing

It's been a passion of mine to help authors and creatives make a living from their writing. I've helped countless women set up their blogs and websites, and generate an income online. It is so satisfying to see a woman begin to make an income from her website. A client texted at almost midnight the other night, and her membership site we'd just finished setting up had it's first member! It's an incredible feeling to start to see that income rolling in.

Before we get started, here are some great resources:

My course for beating Writer's Block:

Work with me:

  • From time to time I take on new clients who want to set up income blogging, membership, and/or course websites. You can always email me if you want to know more.

Great news: there are as many ways to make a living from your writing as there are writers. From fiction to nonfiction, blogging, affiliate links, email marketing, writing for other businesses (including, but not limited to: social media, sales pages, landing pages, blog content, direct response copy, email marketing, and so much more) there are so many ways to get started. Right now, we're living in one of the greatest times in history, because we have direct access to people. We don't have to wait for a publisher to take us on and go through the grueling yearlong process of getting published. We can build our audience ourselves and become our own publishers. We can retain 100% of our royalties from our writing instead of 20-30%.

Here's even better news: most publishing companies today don't take on writers that don't have their own established audiences, because they expect you to market your book extensively after they take you on as an author. They want that assurance that they're going to make money on your book- and they look to you to provide it.

Why is that good news? Because in this market, either way, you're doing your own marketing. And a) if you market a book you self-publish, you get to keep all the royalties, and b) marketing your book has never been easier!

I've been self-publishing and helping other authors publish for ten years now, and I wouldn't do it any other way. The level of control you have over your work, and the high royalties make it all worth it. When I launched my book “Creative Spiritual Women”, I was shocked to see that what I expected to sell in a year or so happened in one month! Because I was the publisher and could see the reports, I had that real-time data and could celebrate right away- instead of waiting sometimes an entire year for data from big publishers.

There are a lot of pieces and parts to book marketing and growing your audience, but overall it's not difficult. And if you have someone set up the technical parts for you, you just do the writing work and hit “post” or “send” or “publish”, and your work is that much easier.

I'd like to go more in-depth on how to make a living from your writing- but first, will you comment below and tell me what kind of writing you do? (Or would LOVE to do?) i.e. fiction, nonfiction, blogging, courses, writing for other businesses (copywriting), etc? When I see what you're most interested in, I can guide you more specifically.

Creatively,

Crystal
